He was born August 26, 1933 in Milwaukee, the son of Julius and Hertha (Ott) Marquardt. He married Gwen Schneider on February 19, 1955 in Milwaukee.
Richard was a graduate of Boys Tech High School in Milwaukee. He served his country in the Army stationed in Germany for two years. He was employed as a cabinetmaker at millworks shops in Milwaukee for 36 years and retired from Discher Millwork of Oshkosh in 1998.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wautoma where he served as Trustee and Usher. Richard was a member of the American Legion Post 163.
Survivors include his wife, Gwen Marquardt, Wautoma; four children, Kathe Marquardt, Appleton, Mark (Pam) Marquardt, Redgranite, Kerri (Jay) Dehling, Oshkosh, Kristi (Peter) Calaway, Neenah; eight-grandchildren, Michelle (Scott) Nickel, Appleton, Amy (Nate) Ellsworth, Evansville, Robyn and Kaytlyn Dehling, Oshkosh, Bethany, Cheyenne, Haleigh, and Drew Calaway, all of Neenah; a step-granddaughter, Jocelyn (Ben) Barwick and their children, Camden and Keaton, of Weston; a great-grandson, Maxwell Ellsworth, Evansville, along with an expected great-grandchild; one sister, Ruth (Ray) Lawton, Richland Center; one brother, Herbert (Elena) Marquardt, Oconomowoc. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by one sister, Gerda Sauberan.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gregory D. Hyatt officiating. Burial will be in Dakota Cemetery, Township of Dakota.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Leikness Funeral Home in Wautoma and at the Church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
