Mr. Aldridge was the son of Peter & Elizabeth Aldridge. He married Dorothy Boisseau and they had two sons, Benjamin & Frederick. BENNETT became known as the "wickedest man in Petersburg" by the time he was in his 70's, being described as stingy and stand offish by most people. He chose his burial spot in 1855 in Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg and had the grave dug and lined with granite. He also had his own coffin fashioned out of black walnut. He told his wife and sons that he wanted to be laid crossways in the grave, rather than the traditional east-west position and that he wanted a man of "recognized wickedness" to deliver his eulogy. Needless to say, when Mr. Aldridge died at age 81, his wife and sons did not honor his wishes. It was reported that they were the only people to attend his funeral.
