Clinton MO, Aug 5 1893 - "But to how few happy households does the death angel come twice and doubly wring the hearts of father and mother and others near and dear by the snatching away of two idolized children. Yet before me lies the sorrowful announcement: Irene Mitchell Turk, died June 2nd, 1893, aged 3 years, 3 months; Louise Rome [Rowe] Turk, died June 23, 1893, aged 18 months. A picture rises before me which I beheld just one short year since, when this household was an unbroken band. Sallie, Irene and Louise, beautiful in appearance, each appealing to the eye of the beholder in a different way, their beauty set off by their dresses of pure and dainty white. They were the cynosure of all eyes and the interest they excited on this occasion was well expressed by one, a stranger, who said: "I want to meet the mother of these lovely children." And now the younger two of them, who in life were inseparable, are no more. Grief and anguish is the portion of those who loved them. Their lives were short but will never be forgotten. Their merry baby prattle is hushed; their eyes forever closed in death but open, thank God, to a brighter, happier life in the kingdom above. There is a loneliness in the mountain home; a little sister bereft of those she loved; two lonely graves in the beautiful California valley. Yet, we sorrow not as those who have no hope for God took them."Daughter of Samuel and Hattie Turk
