Georgia Averett
Georgia (Tiny) Ott Johnson Averett, age 86, died March 20, 1987 in Salt Lake City. She was born Oct. 5, 1900 to Charles and Anna Hoehne Ott in Dallas, Texas. She married William Frederick Johnson, April 26, 1926 in Dallas. He died Feb. 20, 1929. She married Dellos Averett in Oct. of 1932 in Orderville. He died Dec. 21, 1973.
She was an artist and had exhibited widely. She had sold paintings in California, Texas, Nevada and Utah. She worked in pastels and watercolor. Indian portraits were her specialty. She also painted still life, flowers, and landscapes. She loved the Utah canyon country and found beauty wherever she was.
She enjoyed cooking and derived great pleasure from her many years working at Parry Lodge. She worked until she was 72 years old. She insisted on things being done right; less than the best one could do was not good enough. Any failures and calamities were not dwelt on but were put behind, for she always looked ahead. She was a perennial optimist and had a great sense of humor. Her friends have
fond memories of many good times spent with her.
In her young years she was a "Tom boy" playing basketball, riding horses and bicycles and walking in the rain gutter around home in Dallas. She taught English to Jewish immigrants at Dallas High School night school. She loved people and found something good in everyone she met.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Thayne (jo) Smith of Kanab, a sister, Mrs. Frank G. (Nita) Harmon of Dallas; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 23, at 2 p.m. in the Kanab South LDS Chapel, with a viewing from 12:30 to 2 p.m. that same day in Relief Society room.
Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Dallas, Texas, Thursday, March 26, at 11 a.m.
