First born son of Joseph and Maria Christina Schnepp.
When war broke out with the Crown, Leonard and his brother Reinhardt, both young men enlisted in Braunschweig Tsp. 3rd Battalion, Berks Co., Militia under comand of Col. Lindenmuth. Roll calls included them both on April 15, 1779 so they must have stayed several years under the command of Captain Jacob Westston, 1st Let. Geoirg Brach and Let. Michael Mosser. Leonard also served in the Regular Contintental Army of Pennsylvania. Fought in the battles of Brandywine and Chad's Ford in the same days, Sept 10 & 11, 1777. Recently there has been an addition by a rather well known Coy researcher naming a Margaret 1824 as a child of Leonard & Catherine. I can hardly believe it. This is not just wrong but imposible. I also still find the two girls that married Coy boys with the spelling that their Uncle Reinhardt's family uses today, Snypp. It it is time people stop just copying and do some real research. Start with a WILL
I know I am critical and I am sorry for that. However, mistakes are almost impossible to fix let alone the ones that were done on purpose. For instance, Leonards father Joseph. He was born in the Alace region but at that time it belonged to the Austrian -Hungarian Empire. Germany did not exist until 1871 when 27 little countrise uniited. There was never an Palantate Alace. It would became France after WWI and...in the local church in Schnepp, France, there were 9 Joseph Schnepps listed aroung the time of his birth, so we will NEVER know who his parents were!
Researched solely by Linda Doile Morris 4th Great Grandaughter.
