OBITUARY
Dr. Ben Harned, son of John and Elizabeth Harned, was born in Breckenridge county, Kentucky, April 29, 1845, and departed this life at Jet, Oklahoma, February 15, 1930, aged 84 years, 9 months and 17 days. He was one of fifteen children, having eight sisters and six brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents and all brothers and sisters, except one brother, Henry Harned, who resides at Chickasha.
Dr. Harned graduated from University of Medicine, Louisville, Kentucky, in 1869, and practiced his profession about thirty-five years. He was married May 9, 1871, to Mary Peyton Randolph. To this union was born ten children. He is survived by his widow and seven sons and two daughters. One son preceded him in death.
The children are: Dr. Clarence O. Harned, Sasakwa, Oklahoma; Mrs. Sam W. Tucker, Jet; Pomeroy Harned, Jet; Mrs. Marion L. Miller, Amarillo, Texas; Chester A. Harned, Pocasset; J. Randolph Harned, Chicage; Grover C. Harned, Tulsa; Oscar Harned, Earlsboro; Mark L. Harned, Janesville, Wisconsin.
At an early age he professed religion and united with the Presbyterian Church at Salem, Kentucky. He moved to Jet in 1898 and later to Chickasha, where he united with the First Baptist church and was a member at the time of his death, having been a devout Christian all of these years. He was also a member of the Masonic lodge, having been a Master Mason for 63 years.
Dr. Harned was a pioneer of Jet and practiced medicine in this vicinity for a number of years. In addition to his immediate family he is mourned by a host of friends.
