Levi L. Goodell. Middle name not known. Born 22 Jun 1840, Fulton Co., IL. Died 26 Sep 1923, Humboldt, Humboldt Co., IA. Served in the 55th Illinois Volunteers in the Civil War in the Army of the Tennessee. The 55th fought at Shiloh, Corinth, Vicksburg and Chattanooga. The regiment took part in Sherman's Atlanta Campaign, fighting at Jonesboro and Kennesaw Mountain; the march from Atlanta to Savannah; and the march northward through South Carolina and North Carolina. The 55th did not take part in the battle of Chickamauga, which was fought by the Army of the Cumberland.

Beulah Adams possesses a Certificate of Record of Marriage filled out by Clarence H. Tanner, Clerk of County Court for Fulton Co., IL, documenting the marriage between Levi Goodell and Sarah Ann Fielding on 31 Dec 1865 in Fulton Co., IL. Note that Prairie City is on the border of McDonough and Fulton Counties, so that a farmstead might be located in Fulton Co. but consider itself part of the market and social area of Prairie City. Since Prairie City itself lies in McDonough County, and the wedding was reported to have taken place in Prairie City, It is a problem just how to list the location.

Don Gates is a descendent of Levi "Lee" Lincoln Goodell. This Lee Goodell is a nephew of levi L. Goodell.
