Rev. Amasa Jones, M.D., one of thirteen children of Asa Jones and Mary Martin, b. Apr. 18, 1796 at Rindge, NH. In 1821 he was appointed to the missionary family sent by the United Foreign Missionary Society of New York City to Osage Indian Territory, in present-day southwest Missouri and southeast Kansas, to develop Harmony Mission to the Osage Indians. He d. Apr. 17, 1870 at Henry County, MO.

On Feb. 15, 1821 at Ashburnham, Mass. [Feb. 15, 1820 per the Ashburnham records], Amasa m. Roxana Stearns, dau. of William Stearns and Lydia Davis, b. May 7, 1793 at Ashburnham [not on same date in 1798 as often stated]. She was engaged by the Foreign Missionary Society to teach female Osage Indians the activities of "civilized" domestic life. She d. Oct. 17, 1875 at Deepwater, MO.

Amasa and Roxana had two known children:

• i. Mary Elizabeth Jones, bapt. Oct. 1, 1823 at Harmony Mission, d. Apr. 15, 1895 at Madera County, CA; m. circa 1845, James Allen, who was living in June 1880. Four known children of the family. In June 1850 the family was residing at Deepwater Twp, Henry County, MO; by June 1860 at Tulare County, CA; and in June 1870 and June 1880 at Fresno County, CA. Madera County where Mary's death is recorded was created in 1893 from the northeast portion of Fresno County.

• ii. Jane Montgomery Jones, b. Jan. 26, 1824 at Harmony Mission, d. Dec. 8, 1899 at Nevada, Vernon County, MO; m. circa 1839 John Hovey Austin, eldest surviving s. of fellow Harmony Mission missionaries Daniel Harmon Austin and Lydia Jane Hovey, b. May 7, 1809 at Waterbury, VT. He d. May 8, 1861 at Deepwater Twp, Henry County, MO. Eleven children of the family.
