Moore-Died May 5th 1883, brother J.L. Moore, aged 77 years, 7 months and 7 days.

He had long been a citizen of Wilson County, Tennessee, and for more than thirty years a ruling elder in the Mt. Zion congregation of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a modest man, and a very consistent Christian, always in his place in the session and in the congregation unless providentially prevented. His influence was for good during a long life. No man ever had a higher character for honor and integrity. The writer was his pastor fo many years, and takes pleasure in bearing testimony to his worth as a Christian gentleman. His reputation as an upright Christian man is a rich legacy to his family and the Church. No doubt he has a reward in heaven. The session of Mt. Zion congregation adopted the following with reference to his memory:

Whereas, It has please almighty God in his wisdom to remove brother J.L. Moore, an elder in this congregation, from the sorrows of earth to the joys of heaven, therefore,
Resolved, That we as a session humbly bow to the divine will in this sad affliction.
2. That in the death of brother Moore the Church has lost one of its purest and most devoted members and the session a wise counselor.
3. That we tender to the bereaved family our deepest sympathy, and can but mourn with them with a hope to meet again beyond the river.
4. That a copy of this be furnished the family, and also the CUMBERLAND PRESBYTERIAN for publication.
