Viola M. Thomsen, 79, a longtime Mansfield resident, died Sunday morning, May 20, 1990, in Central Washington Hospital.

She was born at Hartline on November 26, 1910, to Arthur and Lula (Stockton) Tillson. She grew up and attended schools at Hartline and graduated from Hartline High School. She later graduated from Cheney Normal School.

She taught school at Mud Springs and met her future husband, Wallace K. Thomsen, there. They married November 26, 1932, at Spokane. They lived on a wheat and cattle ranch northwest of Mansfield until moving to Mansfield in 1979.

She attended the United Protestant Church of Mansfield; a past Noble Grand of the Mansfield Rebekahs; was a member of the Mansfield Grange, the Sunshine Club, and the Senior Citizens; and had been a 4-H leader for many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Janet) Jackson, Marysville and Mrs. Jim (Mary Jean) Cahail, Friday Harbor; five sisters, Elsie Anderson, Portland, Mildred Price, Vancouver, Elaine Webley, Coulee City, Janet Kinder, of Evans and Betty Jud, Spokane; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985 and one son in 1962.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Friday, May 25, 1990, in the Mansfield United Protestant Church. The Reverend Dr. Kenneth Briggs will officiate. If desired, memorials may be made to the Mansfield Ambulance Fund or the charity of your choice in Viola's name. Concluding services and the interment will follow in the Mansfield Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Waterville Funeral Home.
