Mary Ellen Boyd was born December 11, 1947 to late John J. Barton and Ellen Louise Fitzgerald.

She was a devoted wife to her husband and wonderful mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren. She cherished her close friends and was dedicated to professional excellence. She attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Grade school and was in the first graduating class of Bishop Chatard High School in 1965. She obtained an undergraduate degree from Indiana University School of Nursing in 1969 and a Masters Degree in Nursing in 1973. Mary Ellen was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cicero , IN. She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House, a member of Harbour Trees Country Club and a former member of Junior League and Highland Golf & Country Club.

Mary Ellen was Operations Manager of The Care Group, LLC. Prior to that she held the position of Clinical Manager with Northside Cardiology which grew and became The Care Group in 1999. Previous to that she was with the IU School of Nursing where she worked as Clinical Instructor. Previous positions included Discharge Planning Coordinator at St. Vincent Hospital , Staff Development Coordinator at IU Medical Center and Office Nurse of Northside OB/GYN, Drs. Meyers and Jerret. Mary Ellen was at IU Medical Center from 1969 to 1972 where she achieved the level of Unit Director on the Krannert floor at University Hospital . Mary Ellen was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the nursing national honorary.

Mary Ellen's greatest joy was joining with her husband Jack to entertain friends and family at her home which often included boating on Morse reservoir, the Boyd home since 2004. She loved traveling to their second home in Siesta Key Florida and many other places.

Mary Ellen is predeceased by her brother John Barton, Jr. and Dr. Jack Brew Hardigg, husband. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Jack Carr Boyd and three children Dr. J. B. Boyd of Indianapolis (husband of Dr. Kathleen "Kiki") and their children, Mary Ellen's grandchildren, Patrick and Sam, Christopher Boyd of Boulder Colorado, Katherine "Katie" Boyd of Indianapolis, sister, Peggy Barton Weaver (wife of Joe) of Dallas, Texas, Aunt of, Joseph Weaver, III, William (husband of Kathryn)and grand nephews Liam and George, Michael Weaver, John Barton Stevens and Michelle Marie Stevens. Aunt Veronica Barton of Indianapolis and cousin, Maureen McCaughna (wife of Jim) of Indianapolis also survives.

Services were entrusted to Leppert Mortuary of Indianapolis, Indiana.
