By the time we started working in Round Point Cemetery, the original base for Jane's stone was still at her gravesite, but her stone was gone. It looks as though the stone was still there when the Bacons did their reading in 1971, and they noted that their findings were the same as the WPA reading done prior to 1940. We probed and dug up the area around this base, looking for the gravestone, but we could find no sign of it.
In 2005, I met Mr. Warren Johnson, a descendant of Jane Dorr's son Samuel Dorr. Warren decided that he would like to purchase a new stone for Jane's grave. Warren and I corresponded for several weeks, and a new gravestone was purchased at Fuller Monument Company in Ottumwa.
The writing on the gravestone is the same as was written on the original gravestone, which was done according to Warren's wishes. It was also his wish that the original base be left at the gravesite. We set the new stone on September 18, 2005.
