BALLARD-Elayne Spearman, Minnetonka, MN was born September 20, 1928 and passed away on July 8, 2008. She is preceded in death by her father and sister, Charlotte. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Educatio from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She erned her Master's Degree at the University of St. Thomas. Elayne was a teacher in the Hopkins School District for 22 years where she initiated the Community Involvement Program and was a vital part of Hopkins High School Alternative Program. Her post retirement activities included teaching classes at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, playing bridge, walking, reading, and gardening. Elayne and her husband, Jerry, traveled widely and spent many winters in their home away from home in Maui. Elayne was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Jerry Ballard; daugthers, Jane (Jim) Kelley and Barb Ballard Fewer; sons, Bill (Diana) Ballard, Jim (Samantha) Ballard, Michael (Anne) Ballard, Mark (Andrea) Ballard; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Delores (Carl) Waitke.
FUNERAL SERVICE will be held Saturday July 12, 2008 at 2pm at the Hennepin Avenue Methodist Church, 511 Groveland Ave, Minneapolis, MN. Interment will be Monday July 14th 2pm at Evergreen Cemetery in Beatrice, NE. In lieu of flowers, Memorials to the Elayne Ballard Scholarship Fund to be awarded to a Hopkins High School Graduate.
