Ezekiel was the son of Ezra Sanford, Sr. and Martha Barker. He was a Shaker with his father and siblings but was discharged January 19, 1796. He had lived with the Shakers since he was a youth and had learned the cooper's trade under them. His inventory at discharge included a coat, jacket, trousers, stockings, etc., and a set of cooper's tools. Ezekiel married Susanna Badger after his discharge. He was found in Phelps, Ontario, NY in 1799 and Erie County in 1817. He was 58 years old when he died. His wife and children emigrated to Woodstock, Lenawee, Michigan some time after that. His children were Malachi, Desire, Ezekiel W., Joseph, Wardell W., Ezra, Mary Polly who married Michael Chatterdon and Lewis. All of the children were born in Phelps except for Lewis who was born in Wales, Erie, NY.
