Paul E. Axsom, 85, of Taylor Road died at 5:39 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at Four Seasons Health Care Center.

He owned and operated Axsom Plumbing for 30 years and was owner of Axsom Rentals.

He was a member of First Christian Church where he was a deacon for 23 years and was a member of Columbus Optimist Club and the recipient of the Optimist of the Year Award in 1964. He was affiliated with Boy Scouts of America and received the Silver Beaver Award in 1970.

Funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Revs. Dan Chambers and David Burnett officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday. Entombment will be at Garland Brook Mausoleum.

Memorials may be made to Hilltop Christian Church Camp.

Born in Monroe County March 1, 1913, Mr. Axsom was the son of James and Emma Ross Axsom. He married Shirley "Deane" Sherrill March 2, 1948. She died Feb. 8, 1994.

Survivors include sons, Robert Axsom of Laguna Hills, Calif., and Paul E. Axsom II of Columbus; daughters, Cheryl Weidman Kutchinsky of Fort Wayne, Deborah Axsom Denhart of Champaign, Ill., and Rebecca Axsom Biberdorf of Franklin; brothers, Leston "Sam" Axsom of Ellettsville and Parvin Axsom of Smithville; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Drextel Dean Axsom.

Funeral for Paul E. Axsom, 85, of Taylor Road was conducted Saturday at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home with the Revs. Dan Chambers and David Burnett officiating. Julie Wunderle was violinist, and Peggy Wunderle played keyboard. Mr. Axsom's granddaughters, Betsy Barber, Angie Weidman and Stacia Denhart, his brother, the Rev. Sam Axsom, and his daughter, Cheryl Weidman Kutchinsky, gave special remarks. Another daughter, Deborah Denhart, sang and gave special remarks.

Entombment was at Garland Brook Mausoleum. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were Greg Biberdorf, Jack Chestnut, Mike Barber, Yury Kutchinsky, Don and Tony Axsom and Don Pifer.

Mr. Axsom died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at Four Seaons Health Care Center.
