Mrs. Lene L. Arnett Markland, 74, Rt. 2, Roan Mountain, died Thursday night in the Cannon Memorial Hospital, Banner Elk, N.C. following an extended illness.

A native of Avery County, N.C., she was the daudhter of John and Orpha Townsend Arnett, Mrs. Markland was a member of the St. John Freewill Baptist Chruch. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur G. Markland, May 30, 1967. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs, Lillie Markland, Rt. 2 Roan Mountain, Mrs. Louise Taylor, Rt. 2, Elizabethton, and Mrs. Frances Stout, Rt. 2, Roan Mountain; one step-daughter, Mrs. Ethel Moore, Rt. 2, Roan Mountain; three sons, Millard Bowling, Dyer, Ind., Butler Markland Rt.2, Jonesboro, and William Markland, Morganton, N.C., one step-son, John H. Marklank, Rt. 2, Roan Mountain, two brothers, Howard Arnett, and Joseph Arnett, Rt. 2, Roan Mountain, and one sister, Gartie Arnett, Rt. 2, Roan Mountain. Forty- one grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive.
