Berna Dean (West) Wayburn, 70, a longtime resident of Wenatchee, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999 at the Central Washington Hospital of Wenatchee.

She was born on July 13, 1929 to North and Elva (Kayler) West at Chelan. She received her early education in Manson and Entiat schools, graduating from Entiat High School in 1948.

She married Russell R. Wayburn on Sept. 4, 1948 at Manson. They moved to Brookings, OR for three years, returning to Wenatchee in 1953. Following her years as a mother and homemaker, she began work with Mountain Products. She then worked for Skookum Fruit Company as an apple packer until the early 1990s. Following both her and her husband's retirement, they enjoyed traveling with their close friends, Bill and Joyce Deeter.

She was a member of Manson Community Church. She was a member and past President (1968) of Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America.

Berna and Russell celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in September of 1998.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband, Russell of Wenatchee; her two daughters, Diane Ekwell of Wenatchee and Sheila Feist of Rochester; her two grandchildren, Crystal and Tami Ekwall; her great-granddaughter, Hailey; her two sisters, Evelyn Kerr of Hemet, CA and Janice Mulkey of Everson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her two brothers.

Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Wayburn on Friday, Dec. 3, 1999 at 11 a.m. at the Colonial Chapel of Jones & Jones Funeral Home with Pastor Walt Goehner officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at the Entiat Cemetery.
