Born in probably Orange County, Virginia, near the Wilderness, on his father's farm called Oak Hill, Walter Buchanan Higgerson traveled to New Madrid County, Missouri, about 1870 with his family. He married first Parrilee Jones, in New Madrid County, MO, who died in childbirth and is buried there in the LaPlant Family Cemetery at Barnes Ridge. He married 2nd Mrs. Kate "Kittie" (Harris) Shultz on 21 Feb 1892 in New Madrid County, by whom he had two sons: Harry Clifton Higgerson (1889-1973) and Walter E. "Watt" Higgerson (1893-1903). Kate was previously married sometime around 1880-1883, perhaps in Mississippi County, MO, to Cullen F. Shultz (1851-1904) by whom she had one son, Ross Lee Shultz (1883 - ). They separated/divorced (no record), and she married 2nd to Walter Buchanan Higgerson on 21 Feb 1892 in St. John, New Madrid, MO. Walter B. Higgerson died unexpectedly at the age of 33. Kate married 3rd on 21 Jun 1894 in New Madrid County, MO, to Edward Snider (1849- ). Her young son Watt drowned in a boating accident on the Mississippi River on 25 Feb 1903 along with some first cousins, and their bodies were not recovered. On either 5 Aug 1903 or 1908 (can't read the date clearly), Kate married William Coker in New Madrid County, MO. She and her son Harry ran off the last two men she married, and after the 1910 census of New Madrid County, Harry and Kate moved to De Valls Bluff, Prairie, AR by train. Dr. O'Bannon told Harry it might help his mother's health if they changed climates and then purchased Harry's farm. By 15 Apr 1913, Kate died and was buried in Oakland Cemetery in De Valls Bluff; however, there is no record of her burial in the records. When my grandfather returned to the cemetery, he could not find the grave site and did not have any recollection of where it was. He told this to his children and grandchildren. His eldest son tried to find a record, as did I (his granddaughter) at varying times, and it simply was not recorded in the book, which at the time was in the possession of Jimmy Sperry of De Valls Bluff.
