Alcock Cemetery Association establishes permanent endowment
The Bremer County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, announces the Alcock Cemetery Association Endowment Fund has been established to provide support of the charitable activities of the Alcock Cemetery Association.
Charles Alcock donated three and one-half acres of his homestead to be used for a cemetery upon the deaths of his wife, Elizabeth (Peacock) Alcock, who passed away November 3, 1870, from Typhoid fever, and his daughter Hannah, who passed away November 21, 1870. It was Elizabeth's wish to buried on the homestead. Eight of ten of the Alcock's children were buried on this land as well. Since its establishment, the cemetery has served as a community cemetery for residents of Frederika and the surrounding area and is the final resting place for nearly 500 people to date. The cemetery sits along Highway 63, about two and one-half miles southwest of Frederika.
The fund is a permanent endowment fund of the Community Foundation and will ensure the preservation, beautification and maintenance of the Alcock Cemetery. Gifts to the fund are eligible for a 25 percent state tax credit through the Endow Iowa Tax Credit program, in addition to the federal deductions for charitable giving.
