Peter Degen was born near Henry, Illinois and came to Iowa with his parents in 1902 and lived on a farm East of Eagle Grove until 1932 when he moved to Eagle Grove. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and served as an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He died May 31st at the Clarion Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning. June 4th in Sacred Heart Church, with Rev. Father Mullan in charge. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery beside his parents.

Peter Degen was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Henry Degen and one sister Mrs. Anna Ahlers. Surviving are one brother Carl Degen of Burlington, Wisconsin and four sisters Mrs. Henry Keppers of Eagle Grove, Mrs. John Diederich of St. Joseph, Michigan, Mrs. F.X. McDonald of Fullerton, California, Mrs. J.D. Malone of San Francisco, California and 35 nieces and nephews.

Pall bearers were nephews of Peter Degen: John Diederich of St. Joseph, Michigan, Roger and Harold Keppers of Eagle Grove, John and Carl Degen of Burlington, Wisconsin and Robert Degen of Whittemore.

Those from out of town who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. John Diederich and son John from St. Joseph, Michigan, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Degen and sons Carl and Roger and Mrs. John Degen and son John from Burlington, Wisconsin, Mrs. Elisabeth Degen from Algona, Mrs. Leonard Degen from Cherokee, Helen Keppers and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Woodburn and family from Chicago, Illinois, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Fuchsen and family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Degen and Mr. and Mrs. William Degen of Whittemore, Mr. and Mrs. John Ahlers from Granville, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Ahlers from Curlew and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Degen from Bancroft.

Last rites were in Sacred Heart Catholic church Wednesday for Peter Degen, 72, with Rev. Maurice Mullan officiating at the requiem mass. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Degen, a retired farmer, died Saturday night in the Clarion Memorial Hospital. He suffered a stroke Saturday morning and his condition was regarded as serious at that time.

Mr. Degen is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Henry Keppers of Eagle Grove; Mrs. F.X. McDonald, Los Angeles; Mrs. J.D. Malone of San Francisco, California; Mrs. John Diedrich of San Joseph, Michigan and one brother Carl Degen of Burlington, Wisconsin.
