THE POYNETTE PRESS JUNE 1886

Died – On the 5th inst. In this village, George Mountford, age 56 years. For three months past, he had been wearing away with a disease contracted in the army during which time he had suffered much, but is now at rest. Thus one by one our brave boys are passing away. His funeral; services were held in the Presbyterian Church Sabbath afternoon. Sermon by Rev. R.W. Nicholas

Geo. Mountford, who was in Capt. Dow's company in the far famed "Iron Brigade," died Saturday at his Residence at Poynette. He was injured in the service and never fully recovered, although he had been seriously ill only about three months preceding his death.

He enlisted 27 February 1864 Company C 23rd Infantry, transferred to Company B Infantry – mustered out 4 January 1866.

George Mountford was born October 3rd, 1830 (Christened August 10th, 1833) the son of William T and Hannah H Mountford. George died June 5th, 1886 at the age of 56.

He was the husband of Catherine Wiles Stanton.

George and Catherine were the parents of Esther H (born 1863), George H, William T.S. (born 1867), Kate A (born 1869), Nelle M, Joseph Edwin (born 1872), Mary A (born 1874), Frederic A , Chester, and Albert L Mountford.
