Leander brought his young family to Elmwood Township Michigan apx. 1886, where Leander purchased 80 acres of land in section 21,(next to Helens brother John L. Winchester) The area at that time was still wild virgin land. Both families cleared their land of trees for farming, built houses, barns, and raised cattle.
This information was told to me from my grandmother Jennie (Morse) Hjeltness (& her "many"sisters) daughters of Leanders son "Judson" & Emma (Rockefeller)Morse, whos children were all born & raised in Elmwood Township Michigan.
Today sadly, both of their houses, barns etc. are farm feilds.
