Shirlie Clayton Pounders, 87, of Olive Branch, MS, went to be with the Lord on January 24, 2015. She was retired from Hanes Hosiery Distribution Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, mother, Kathleen Clayton and father James C. Clayton, sisters Gloria Wilson and Nancy Bradfield.
She, along with her husband Percy, were faithful members of the Barton United Methodist Church for 70 years. Shirlie also served as organist/pianist, Sunday School teacher and treasurer of the church. She was a member of the order of the Eastern Star for 65 years and was Worthy Matron two times. Shirlie was the loving wife of Percy P. Pounders, Jr. for 70 years, beloved mother of to one daughter and son-in-law and grandmother of one. She is also survived by two sisters.
She is deeply loved by her many nieces, nephews and friends and she will be forever loved and deeply missed by all. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 28 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch, MS. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 29 at Barton United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Center Hill Cemetery.
