Was reported to be an Indian Scout in the Revolutionary War. Moved from WV to Iowa in 1835/36.
Married Mary Linger April 5, 1804 in Harrison County, VA. She evidently remarried in April 4, 1854 to Isaac Dix in Lewis County, WV.
Children: Margaret, Nicholas (buried in Smith Cemetery), Catherine, Sarah, Samuel Jasper, Lucinda, Jacob Wesley (buried in Smith Cemetery), Lewis (buried in Smith Cemetery).
