Obituary - Russell Howard Olsen ~ He will be Missed

Russell died at age 86. He and Gene had been married for 59 years. They were parents of Howard, Karl, Craig and a beautiful daughter Kyle Ann. Grandparents of 10, great-grandparents of three, and one expected in November.

At age eight Russ had spinal meningitis which left him completely deaf in one ear and partial deaf in the other.

When war was declared in 1941, Russ tried to enlist in the Navy, but was rejected. Several months later he was drafted into the Army Air Corps. After training at Chanute Field he was sent to Mobile, Alabama where he was assigned to a Navy ship. He spent all of his service time on board the ship. He participated in many skirmishes in the South Pacific. He received Battle Stars for the invasion of Iwo Jima and Saipan.

He retired as Template Shop Foreman for Chicago Bridge and Iron after 33 years of service.

The family would like to give heart felt thanks to Harmony Hospice. Their professional expertise allowed Russ to remain home. The care of his devoted and skilled daughter brought happiness and acceptance to his final weeks.

Family services will be held at the Salt Lake City cemetery on June 10th at 10:00 a.m
