Jackie "Jack" Puckett, 80, of 1005 E. Main St., Wauzeka, Wis., formerly of Dubuque, died peacefully Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at home surrounded by family.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 7. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.

Mr. Puckett worked for John Deere Dubuque Works for 32 years, retiring on Jan. 31. 1985.

He was born on Jan. 16, 1928, in Boscobel, Wis., son of Lynneville and Elizabeth (Mullikan) Puckett. He married Phyllis Brown on May 15, 1954, in Dubuque, they were married for 52 years, until her death on Jan. 5, 2007. Jack and Phyllis lived most of their lives in Dubuque, and later retired to Wauzeka.

Jack served in the Navy as a corpsman first class during World War II and the Korean War.

He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 94.

He will be fondly remembered for his never ending generosity, compassion and his desire to help others. Jack loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling out west to visit his daughters and grandchildren in Nevada and Colorado. Jack loved to tell stories and jokes and lived his life to the fullest. He was a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed his collection of Packer memorabilia.

Surviving are a son, Donald L. Puckett, of Epworth, Iowa; two daughters, Deborah L. Reisdorf, of Boscobel, Wis., and Elizabeth "Susie" (Hal) Ostler, of Battle Mountain, Nev.; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Daniel "Spike" Brown, of Dubuque; and several nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roland; a granddaughter, Tanya; and his beloved dog Smokey.
