Catherine was born the oldest child of Peter & Maria Magdalena "Helen" (Krings) Brausen in the Cross Plains area of Dane county, Wisconsin. The Brausen family moved to Buckman sometime around 1885. Her eldest daughter was the child of William Grell. She married Math Meyer in 1895, he raised Lene as his own daughter & they had 12 more children together. Math & Catherine farmed in Agram township on the Meyer family farm that Math's father Nick had settled. Their daughter Eva, and her husband Alfred Janson would take over the farm after Catherine died.
