LORAINE, Ill. -- William Emory Henning 83, of Athens, a Big Neck community native, died at 11:03 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 3, 1997) in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Born May 15, 1914, Mr. Henning was a son of William and Alice McClelland Henning. He married Marjorie Stabler Sept. 27, 1941. She survives. '
A licensed funeral director for more than 60 years, Mr. Henning had served the Athens community for more than 50 years at the Mott & Henning Funeral Home. He was a 1937 graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science, was president of the Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens and was a member of Illinois Funeral Directors Association. He was a Navy veteran.
Mr. Henning was a member of Athens United Methodist Church, James C. Wade Post of the American Legion 129 and Athens Rotary Club, was a 50-year member of Pinochle Club, and was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. He served as trustee of Joel Hall Cemetery and was a steward of the Future of the Athenian Community Park.
Survivors also include a son, Richard Henning of Athens; two daughters, Mrs. Janet Brown of Hermosa Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Alice Washington of Athens; two brothers, Russell and Wilson Henning of rural Loraine; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
Mr. Henning was preceded in death by a son, Robert; and two sisters, Maxine Schafer and Pauline Birch.
Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Athens United Methodist Church by the Rev. Norman Mendell. Burial will be in Hall Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens.
Memorials may be made to Athens United Methodist Church, Athenian Community Park or Joel Hall Cemetery.
