Ollie Pettey was a large - bigger than life man who stood 6'6" tall. He loved people and laughed easily and often. He loved his family deeply. In his younger days he worked for the electric company stringing wire all across east Texas. This was extremely rough work as the trees, grasses, boulders had to cleared out of the way before they could set the poles to string the wires to bring electricity to the rural areas of eastern Texas.

He also began preaching when he was in his teens. I've often heard him say that he would go out in the woods and preach to an old stump just to be able to preach. He became an Assemblies of God minister and started and pastored churches all over east Texas.

He was uneducated as far as schooling goes - he only went to the third grade in school - but he was a very wise man. He was a praying man. He was a man who loved those who called him Pastor.
