Bay Springs, Mississippi

Preston Paul Ladner, 76, of Bay Springs died Saturday morning at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg after a lengthy illness.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Harrison Funeral Home, with the Reverend Marion Wilson officiating Interment will follow in Bay Springs Cemetery.


Mr. Ladner, a native of Pearl River, was a retired salesman for poultry businesses. He was a member of Bay Springs First Baptist Church and was an Army veteran of World War II. He had lived most of his life in Jasper County, Mississippi.


Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Rita Ladner; two daughters, Rose Diane Ladner (actress Diane Ladd) and Mrs. Melda McNeil, of Bay Springs; three brothers, Ted Lander of New Orleans, Ezra and N. W. Lander, both of Mobile; six sisters, Mrs. Essie Pariette, Mrs. Mary Strahan, and Mrs. Johnie Dubose, all of Lumberton, Ms. Aliene Ladner of Poplarville, Mrs. Marguerite Davis of Mobile, and Mrs. Hattie Marie Starne of Houston, Tx; and three grandchildren. Mr. Ladner was preceded in death by a grandchild, Diane Elizabeth Dern, who died from a drowning accident at the age of 18 mos. Mr. Ladner is the grandfather of actress Laura Dern.


Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.


Diane Ladd was the only child from the marriage of Mary Bernadette Anderson and Preston P. Ladner who were married in 1932.
