Alan Clarke Helmick, age 62, of Whitewater, Colorado died Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at his home in Whitewater.
He was born August 27, 1945 in Delta, Colorado to John Clarke and Carolie Edna (Tracy) Helmick. He married Miriam F. Morgan on June 24, 2006 at Grand Junction, Colorado. He was previously married to Sharon Leonard for 36 years. She died in 2003.
Mr. Helmick had owned Helmick mortgage since 1986. He also worked as a land developer for a number of years.
Alan attended school in Delta graduating from Delta High School in 1963. He graduated from Adams State College with a degree in physics.
He had been a resident of Delta his entire life until moving to Whitewater, Colorado in 2006.
He had served on the Delta Savings & Loan Board for a number of years, was a former President of the Delta Area Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Delta Elks Lodge #1235. Alan especially enjoyed golf, boating and scuba diving.
He is survived by his wife, Miriam of Whitewater, CO; one son, Alan Helmick, Jr. of Seattle, WA; three daughters, Portia & husband, Josh Vigil of Delta, CO, Wendy Helmick of Englewood, CO and Kristy & husband, Jacob Burd of Seattle, WA; a step-son, Jason Giles of Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Gordon Helmick of Sterling, CO; three sisters, Leslie & husband, Jerry Julian of Anderson, SC, Merredith Von Burg of Grand Junction, CO and Tracy Hoffman of Ft. Collins, CO; and five granddaughters, Abigail, Shoshana and Sharon Vigil and Carolie and Wendy Ventola .
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon Helmick, and his brother, Jim Helmick.
