Daniel E. Buckert, 87, died on Sunday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Virgil Mercier, in Hastings

He had been in failing health for the past several weeks. He was engaged in farming in Nuckolls county (sic) before retiring in 1940.

Survivors include his wife; a son and a daughter.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:30 at the Nora Methodist Church. Burial was made in the Nora cemetery.

Daniel Edward, son of Katherine and Daniel Burkert, was born Mar. 13, 1865, in Furstenburg, Germany, and passed away at the home of his daughter in Hastings, Nebr., Apr. 6, 1952, at the age of 87 years and 24 days.

He and a sister came to this country in 1881 when he was 16 years of age and lived with an uncle near Edwardsville, Mo., until he was 21. He then homesteaded near Goodland, Kan., for several years and also worked on a ranch in Colorado a few years. In 1897 he came to Nora, Nebr.

In 1898 he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Kruse and they resided on a farm northwest of Nora two and a half years, moving then to a farm of their own a half mile east of Nora where they lived for seven years. In 1908 they purchased a farm three and a quarter miles north of north where they lived until 1940, when they moved to their present home at Oak, Nebr.

Three children were born to this union, one child preceeding him in death in infancy. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Emma, a daughter, Mrs. Virgil Mercier of Hastings, Nebr., a son, Elmer of Nora, and two grandchildren, Gwen and Darrell, also a sister, Mrs. Mary Koch of Warsaw, Ill.

Mr. Buckert was confirmed of the Lutheran faith when 14 years of age. In later years becoming a member of the Methodist church.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Nora on Tuesday, April 8, by Rev. Dunbar, assisted by Rev. Harold J. Coates. Interment was made in the Nora cemetery.
Pallbearers were: John Jensen, John Bauman, Chas. Youngs, Clyde Gerbeling, Frank Belcher and Harold Runge.

Relatives from a distance attending the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Ray Buckert, Mrs. Mary Koch of Warsaw, Ill., Mrs. Paul Bultz, Burlington, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hemberger, Hastings; and Mr. and Mrs. Matt George, Formosa, Kansas.
