Del Norte, Colo. resident Maria Cordelia ‘Cordy' Montoya, 78, passed away Nov. 15, 2007, at St. Joseph Exempla Hospital in Denver, Colo.
Cordy was born Oct. 22, 1929, in Del Norte the daughter of Ysidoro Arellano and Porfiria Cortez Arellano. She was united in marriage to Lee I. Montoya on Jan. 21, 1947. Cordy was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary SB9, and she enjoyed crocheting, crafts, bingo, and spending time with her loving family.
Survivors include nine children: Rita (Larry) Montoya de Vigil of Del Norte, Peggy Montoya of Nyssa, Ore, Patricia Montoya of Del Norte, Tito (Debbie) Montoya of Del Norte, Daniel Montoya of Del Norte, Angela Montoya of Lafayette, Colo., Lydia (Arthur) Heredia of Aurora, Colo, Pamela (Mike) Crumley of Denver, Colo, Mary Lee (Randy) Garcia of Fairbanks, AK; 28 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters Carmen Hafley of Indianapolis, Ind, Ursulita Vigil of La Garita, Colo, Valentina Valdez of Del Norte; one brother Joe Arellano of Denver, and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cordy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lee I. Montoya, one son Johnny James Montoya, one granddaughter Crystal Lee Montoya, 11 brothers and sisters.
A vigil service with Recitation of the Rosary was held on Mon, Nov. 19, 2007 at 7 pm at Holy Name of Mary Church in Del Norte. A funeral service will be held on Tue, Nov. 20, 2007 at 10 am at Holy Name of Mary Church. Interment followed at Del Norte Cemetery. Friends called Sunday and Monday from 1-5 at Romero Funeral Home in Monte Vista who is in care of the arrangements.
