James Johnston immigrated to Pennsylvania Colony with his wife, Nancy Walpole, in the early 1700s. James and Nancy, married in 1726, were the parents of Mary (Johnston) Johnston (b. 1728) and Sarah (Johnston) Gordon (b. 1736). On January 7, 1740, at the First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, Pa., James married Elizabeth (Brown) Findlay. James and Elizabeth became the parents of James Johnston, Thomas Johnston, Mary (Johnston) Beatty, John Johnston, Martha (Johnston) Campbell Spear, Robert Johnston and Elizabeth (Johnston) Boggs.
