The family moved to Twin Falls in 1937, where she met and married Gustav F. Wegner, at the Bethel Temple, on December 5, 1938. They lived in the Magic and Treasure valleys, Rockland, American Falls and Pablo, Montana.
She was one of the first employees hired by Lamb-Weston . In 1963, she quit to attend cosmetology school. She owned "Opal's Cut & Curl" in American Falls before becoming an examiner for the State of Idaho Cosmetology Board from 1968 to 1974. She became a licensed instructor, teaching at Western School of Hair Design in Nampa. She worked as a mold operator in the Tupperware factory in Jerome from 1980 until its close, at which time they moved back to American Falls.
"Slim" and Opal were married 67 years and raised six children. She is survived by a son, John Wegner, daughters, Carletta (Ralph) Breding, Rose Vee Wegner, and Sheila (Greg) Hahn; grandchildren, Paul (M.J.) Wegner, Gustav (K.C.) Wegner , Rene Turner, Kimberley Wegner, Julie Rezai (Bill), Don (Gina) Breding, Lesa Breding, Jody Breding , Jerrod (Rishay) Ackley , Ryan (Dawn) Ackley, Cade Ackley (Mellie), and Chantelle Ackley, also twenty-six great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and a brother, Roy (Edwardine ) Sexton.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, sons, Donald and Timothy, daughter, Cheryl, her parents, three brothers, three sisters and two grandchildren.
