MRS. LEWIS BIRKY
KOUTS -- Mrs. Lewis (Bertha) Birky, 79, RFD 1, Kouts, died early this morning in her home after an illness of two years.
Born near Hopedale, Ill., April 11, 1887 Mrs. Birky had been a resident of the Kouts area for 50 years, coming from Illinois. On Dec. 30, 1906 at Hopedale, she was married to Lewis Birky, who preceded her in death in 1957.
She was a charter member of the Hopewell Mennonite church in Kouts.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Ellen Good; three sons, Chauncey, Arthur and Ralph, all of the Kouts area; one brother, Elmer Martin, Hopedale; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, one son and four sisters.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hopewell Mennonite church with the Revs. Samuel Miller and Emanuel Birky officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell cemetery.
Friends may call at Kosanke Brothers Funeral home after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
