Walter was a son of Walter and Jean (Lawson) Bennetto Sr. He graduated from Forty Fort High School and attended Wyoming Seminary. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He had resided in Forty Fort for 85 years. Prior to his retirement, he was a plumbing and heating contractor. He was also the co-founder of Half Circle BBQ. He was a member of Forty Fort United Methodist Church; a 50-year member of Kingston Lodge No. 395, F&AM; Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg; and the Irem Temple. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Selma (Devendofe) Bennetto, who died January 17, 2005.
