On 5 November 1859, Hilke married Weet Jansen/Janssen in the Silver Creek Church in German Valley, IL. This couple had one child. Weet died 2 November 1861.
Possibly in October 1868, Hilke married Rev. Ede Luurts Meinders.
Hilke died December 1868. While riding in a lumber wagon, the horses became uncontrollable and she jumped from the wagon against a fence post. The injuries sustained were such that she died shortly thereafter.

there is an unreadable statement at the bottom of the front of the marker which is probably a biblical statement. The back outlines the cause of death and the marriages to W. Johnson/Janssen and E.L. Meinders.
