John Belden Billingsley moved to Newton County, Missouri with his parents in 1836. They moved to Ellis County in 1844. John Belden Billingsley was the signer of the petition for the formation of Johnson County in 1854. He was issued the fourth marriage license in Johnson County on 31 January 1855 when he married Mary Wallace.

John Belden Billingsley enlisted on 13 May 1862 as Private in the 8th Texas Infantry, Young's Regiment. He is listed as a prisoner in April 1863 and his last record is dated February 1864 which shows him on furlough in Hill County, Texas.

Mr. Billingsley named some of the creeks in Johnson County, Texas. He is the author of the booklet "Personal Recollections of Johnson County". His wife preceded him in death.

John Billingsley married Mary Wallace on 31 January 1855 in Johnson County, Texas.

Grandpa Billingsley, the father of Ab and Lon Billingsley, died last Tuesday at the home of his son near Medlan's Chapel. Grandpa was very old and had been helpless for a long time. He had been a Christian for many years and was ready to answer the summons to go to his reward. We sympathize with the bereaved relatives.
