IN MEMORY
Those we love remain with us,
for love itself lives on.
Cherished memories never fade, because
one loved is gone.
Those we love can never be, more than a
thought apart,
for as long as there's a memory,
they live on in our heart.
Author Unknown.

John completed his extraordinary earthly journey on October 24. 2015, at his home in Mineola with his loving wife, Carolyn, and family and friends at his side.

John and Carolyn were members of Lake Fork Baptist Church in Alba, Tx. where they had attended for many years. His Pastor, Bro.Perry Crisp and Danny Meek officiated at his funeral service.

John was born on November 26, 1939 in Clovis, N.M. to Raymond and Bernice Landers, who were from East Texas, but were temprarily in N.M. during wartime WW2. John was one of six children born to Raymond and Bernice. The family moved to Dallas, Tx, in 1941, where John and siblings began their childhood years. After graduation from Thomas Jefferson High School, John spent 2 years in the U.S. Navy.

He spent most of his professional career in law enforcement in Dallas He joined the Dallas Police Department, where he served in several bureaus, including the Vice Squad, Crimes Against Persons, Narcotics Division, Homicide. He earned his college degree while serving on the force, receiving his B.S. degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University. John also served in the administrative area of police work, including Internal Affairs, Crime Analysis, and Intelligence.

While at the Dallas Police Department, John earned the Meritorious Conduct Award, and twice received the Life Saving Award, and the Safe Driving Certificate. He was awarded the Perfect Attendance Certificate three times, and the Expert Marksmanship Award five times.

He took a leave of absence from the Dallas Police Department in 1983 to serve as Chief of Police in Corsicana, Texas for two years, and then returned to Dallas, where he remained another seven years, retiring in 1992 from the Intelligence Division with a total of 25 years of service in law enforcement.

On November 27, 1980, John married Carolyn Robertson on Thanksgiving day. They soon began the restoration of their 100-year-old home in Corsicana. They moved to Mineola in 1986, and after his retirement in 1992, they began to travel. In 1995 they completed their travel goal- visiting all 50 states. As an adventurous couple, some of those trips were on their motorcycle.

John began to fervently read and search God's Word, to seek understanding and direction of God's will for his life. He earned his Doctorate in Theology, and in 1997, he was ordained and licensed as a minister in the Baptist church; consequently, he felt a tugging at his heart to share the Word of God, so he and Carolyn began to compose Gospel music. Many of their songs have been recorded by various gospel artists across the United States and have been played on radio and television stations around the world. One particular song, "I Love America" was awarded song of the year by the Fellowship of Christian Music in 2001.
