Funeral services were held Friday morning from St. Mary's Catholic church, for
Mr. Nick Bloes, who passed away Wednesday after an illness of only a few weeks.
Mr. Bloes was born in Bascharge. Luxembourg in the year 1859, having attained
the age of 82 years and eleven months. When but a young lad he came to America.
On January 11, 1883 he was united in marriage to Susan Nye. They lived two years
at Gilbertsville, then moved to a farm in O'Brien county where they resided until
1928 when they moved to Ashton. This union was blessed with eleven children, one
daughter passing away in infancy. Those left to mourn his departure are his wife; six
daughters, Mrs. Margaret Krogman, Ashton; Mrs. Agnes Tonkinson of Proctor, Mont.;
Mrs. Elizabeth Dillon of Worthington; Mrs. Susan Harmon of Compton, Calif; Mrs. Victoria
Dougherty of Ireton; Mrs. Cecelia Pint of Gilbertsville; four sons, John of Ashton, Joe Bloes
of Fort Hancock, N. J.; Martin and Gregory of Sibley. Two sisters and two brothers also
survive; 36 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Despite Mr. Bloes age and being
handicapped in walking he was always cheerful and happy with the aid of two canes, he was
able to take his daily walk uptown until about eight weeks ago when he began to fail.
Pallbearers were Frank Krogman, Ben Hatting, Wm. Johannes, Alvin. Jackley, Henry DeVries
and Val Breuer.
