He retired from Union Carbide as a welder and continued his love of ironwork, working in his workshop at home. He also enjoyed having a big garden and holding cookouts for his family and friends. He was also a US Army Veteran, where he served as a bugler. As a member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Claremont is considered the last "real son" of Wood County since his father served in the WV Infantry of the Civil War.
He is survived by his son, Donald G. Deem and wife Judy of Duvola, OH; one daughter, Mary Burdette Wildt and husband Gary of Leachtown, WV; twenty-four grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Lindy Deem of Parkersburg and niece Helen Summers Cokeley of Harrisville, WV.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Arline Jacobson Deem, second wife Veva Lemon Deem, most recent wife Emily Miller Deem; four children, Robert Claremont Deem, Brice Andrew Deem, Barbara Agnes Raymond, William Carl Deem; two brothers Robert and Herbert Deem; two sisters, Mildred Deem, Isabelle Summers and eighteen half brothers and sisters.
Services will be Monday 11:00 AM at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Reverend John F. Koerner officiating.
Burial will follow at Westfall Cemetery, Smithville, WV. Visitation will be Sunday 2-4 pm at the funeral home.
