Rubidoux Descendant Dies At Costa Mesa
William Wilbur Rubidoux, 66, a great-grandson of Colton-Riverside pioneer and land tycoon, the late Louis Rubidoux, died early today at his home in Costa Mesa.
Former Resident
William Rubidoux, a former Colton resident, was born in Riverside in 1892, and attended Riverside Schools. While living in Colton, Rubidoux worked as an engineer with the Southern Pacific Railroad until his retirement a few years ago. A member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Engineers, Rubidoux lived at the corner of Mr. Vernon Ave., and C St. in the city until he and his wife moved to Costa Mesa four years ago.
At the time of his death, Rubidoux resided at 1000 Arbor Ave. in Costa Mesa.
Great-Grandfather
Rubidoux's great-grandfather, socially prominent citizen and Colton-Riverside pioneer owned a major portion of land in the West Riverside area. West Riverside, now known as Rubidoux, and Mt. Rubidoux was named after its founder.
The Rubidoux family came to America from France and established themselves in St. Louis, Mo., where the great-great-grandfather of Louis Rubidoux became a prominent furrier. His son, Louis, left Missouri and came to Riverside where he and his family settled.
Survivors
Survivors include his wife, Jeannette;
three daughters, Mrs. Audrey Williams of Grand Terrace, Mrs. Celeste Kelly of Bloomington, and Mrs. Annabelle Combs of Colton;
a son, Cecil of Mira Loma;
two step-sons, Louis Marberry of San Bernardino and Carl Marberry of Neport Beach;
a step-daughter, Mrs. Haroldine Breneman of Costa Mesa;
a brother, Alfred of Beverly Hills;
four sisters, Mrs. Christine Schletzer of Hollywood, Mrs. Marguerite Johnsen of Encino, Mrs. Inez Fairweather of Colton, and Mrs. Connie White of Costa Mesa;
ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are pending at Knopsnyder's Mortuary in Colton.

COLTON - WILLIAM WILBUR RUBIDOUX, grandson of the pioneer settler of that name, died yesterday at the age of 66 in his Costa Mesa home, 1000 Arbor Street.
His grandfather Louis, who spelled his name Robidoux, was one of the first settlers in the valley. Mt. Rubidoux is named after him.
William, a native of Riverside, had lived all but the last six years of his life in the Colton-Riverside area before moving to Costa Mesa. He was an engineer for the Southern Pacific Railroad Company for 37 years.
Survivors include the widow, Jeannette; three daughters, Audrey Williams, Celeste Kelly and Annabelle Combs; and one son Cecil A. Rubidoux, all of Colton.
Also surviving are four sisters, Inez Fairweather, Colton; Connie White, Costa Mesa; Christine Schletzer, Hollywood; Marguerite Johnson, Encino;
and one brother, Alfred of Beverly Hills.
Three stepchildren, Louis and CarlMarbury and Mrs.Haroldine Brennman, also survive, as do 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Rosary will be recited at 8P.M. today with the Rev. Michael Keane officiating. Mass will be celebrated at 9 A.M.Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church.
Internment will be in Hermosa Cemetery.
