"William Stratton Johnston, 84, died last Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Malcomb Gregg, in Milwaukee, Wis., of heart trouble from which he had suffered some time. Deceased was a son of Samuel and Elizabeth Osborne Johnston and was born in North Jackson. He was a Civil War veteran, having served with distinction in Co. E. Second Ohio Volunteer Cavalry, which was largely recruited in Mahoning county. His wife was Ella Truesdale, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Truesdale, who preceded him in death some years since. When a young man he became associated with the Andrews & Hitchcock Coal Co. in Youngstown and later was identified with the Republic Iron & Steel Co. with headquarters in Buffalo, N. Y. In recent years he had been retired. He frequently visited in Canfield where his parents spent their last years, and in the home of a niece, Mrs. E. A. Arnold. Surviving him is a son, Charles, of Pittsburgh, a daughter, Mrs. Gregg, and one sister, Mrs. Alexander Dickson, Mesa, Arizona, she being the last of the family. Funeral services in charge of Rev. Henry White were held from the Orr funeral home in Youngstown Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The remains were brought to Canfield and laid to rest beside those of his wife in the village cemetery."
