John Kobilka, Aged Resident, Is Dead

Death comes Suddenly Monday Evening Following a Hemorrhage Attack of the Lungs

John Kobilka, 68 year old resident of this community, died suddenly Monday evening following hemorrhage of the lungs. He had been ill some time but was able to be around. Mr. Kobilka was a well known farmer of Pierz, having lived here since 1872.

Mr. Kobilka was returning from a visit at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Math Beimert, and was passing near the Pierz Motor company building on his way to the home of his son Louis C. when the attack came. As he sank to his knees, he called to Louis, who was a few steps ahead, to wait. Louis and Tony Hoffman, who was near by at the time, carried Mr. Kobilka to the steps leading to the doctor's office at the drug store building where he died. It was about 6:30 o'clock.

John Kobilka was born August 12, 1861 in Platz, Austria. His death occurred on his birthday. At the age of ten he came to America with his parents, who settled at LaCrosse, Wis. A year later the family moved to Pierz. John later made his home on a farm three miles west of Pierz. In 1886 he was married to Marie Novak in Pierz. The first marriage union was blessed with six children of which three are living: Mrs. Steve Hurt of North Prairie, Mrs. Math Beimert and Mrs. Albert Meyer of Pierz. His first wife died in 1898, 12 years after marriage.

In 1899 Mr. Kobilka's marriage to Rosalia Novak occurred at St. Cloud. Six children were also born to this union and five are living: Louis C. of Pierz, with whom Mr. Kobilka was living at the time of his death, Henry and Nicholas of Pierz, Mrs. Charles Saehr of Pierz. Mr. Kobilka's second wife died about 20 years ago.

Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph's church at 9 o'clock tomorrow, August 16, with burial in the local cemetery following.

Besides his eight children who are living, the deceased is survived by a sister and a brother: Mrs. Wenzel Medek of Pierz village and Louis Kobilka of Buh township.
