Bertha Elske was born on August 11, 1884, in Jefferson county, Nebraska, and departed this life at the hospital in Fairbury, Nebraska, February 6, 1940, after about two weeks of severe illness. At the time of her demise, she was 55 years, 6 months and 15 days of age. She spent her early years attending the rural schools of Jefferson county, and during these years, she was baptized and confirmed in the St. John Methodist Church at Western, Nebraska. On February 26, 1903, she was united in marriage with Charles A. McAdams, and to this union one son, Homer, was born. This son survives his mother. After the death of Charles A. McAdams, she became the wife of her husband's brother, J.K. McAdams, who survives her. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Pearl McAdams of Western, one brother, August Elske, of Fairbury, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Kent H. Clifton at the Methodist church in Western on Saturday afternoon, February 10, 1940. Appropriate music was furnished by Mrs. Ed Steel, Mrs. C. Urbach, Fred Dallman and Herbert Gadow, with Mrs. K.H. Clifton at the piano. Burial was made in the Plainview cemetery.
