John Barkhimer, 76, Dies Sunday
John W. Barkhimer, 76, retired farmer and factory employee died at 12:15 o'clock Sunday afternoon at his home, 1640 Maple street. He was the father of Lynn P. Barkhimer, Bartholomew county auditor, and Paul W. Barkhimer of Columbus.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Hathaway funeral home by the Rev. R. S. Miller. Burial will be at Garland Brook cemetery. The casket is open at the funeral home.
Mr. Barkhimer was born Oct. 29, 1885, in Bartholomew county, the son of Phillip and Lydia Settles Barkhimer. He was married Oct. 24, 1906, to the former Adah Sprague, who survives. He was a member of the Wertz Memorial Evangelical United Brethren church. He had been originally employed as a farmer and later was with Arvin Industries for 15 years and Bohn-Davis company for four years, retiring from the latter in 1954.
Survivors beside the wife and two sons are a sister, Mrs. Anna Sprague of Burnsville; a brother, Valentine Barkhimer of Columbus; two grandchildren, Robert Lynn and John William Barkhimer; and three half-brothers, Homer, Omer and Lowell Barkes all of Columbus.
