Omer B. Barkes, 69, 916 Fourth, died Wednesday at the Bartholomew county hospital after a 6-month illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Reed funeral home by the Rev. Gilbert Curry. Burial will be at Garland Brook cemetery. Persons may call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy Clark; a son, Duane Barkes of 248 North Hughes; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Sherbundy of Minneapolis, Minn.
Also four stepsons, Ray Clark of Route 5, Donald Clark of Columbus, Larry Clark of Azalia and Lynn Clark of 1415 Lawton; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Gene Gross of Route 2, Mrs. Edward Meyer of Route 8, Mrs. Gerald Weddle of 1644 Lafayette and Kathy Clark at home.
Also two brothers, Lowell Barkes of 4451 Roosevelt and Homer Barkes of 3322 McCul-lough; two half brothers, Valentine Barkhimer of 2100 Midway and Ray Barkes of Yakima, Wash.; two half sisters, Verna Conner of Lakeland, Fla., and Annie Sprague of Hope; 26 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the East Columbus United Methodist church and the Senior Citizens club and retired in 1970 from the former Reeves Pulley company.
He was born June 29, 1905, in Brown county to Isaac and Lydia Ellen Settle Barkes. In 1926 he married Gail Lane, who died in 1969. In 1970 he married Dorothy Clark.
