Martiel (Tanner) Thompson, 92, of E. Main St. Cato, NY, died Sunday, May 25, 2008, while staying with her daughter in West Palm Beach, FL. Martiel was born December 7, 1915, in Hackensack, NJ, the daughter of the late Leslie and Maude Eckert Tanner. She along with her husband Norris ran The Thompson Press and the Tri-County Advertiser for 35 years in the village of Cato. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 234; the Cato Senior Citizens Club; and the CIViC Heritage Historical Society. She was predeceased by her husband, Norris E. Thompson, in 1975 and two brothers, Ralph (1993) and Leslie Tanner (1982). She is survived by her son, Donald (Marilyn) Thompson of Cato; her daughter, Barbara (David) Rogers of West Palm Beach, FL; along with seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at Jewell Funeral Homes, Inc., 13164 South St., Cato. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 30, at the funeral home, with Rev. Floyd Duger officiating. Eastern Star services will be held. Burial will be in Cato Union Hill Cemetery.
