Mrs. Hazel Cross

Mrs. Hazel G. Cross, 69, of Louisville, Ky. mother of Mrs. Hunter (Gladys) Pinney of Martinsville, was found dead Tuesday at 6am at her residence, Dosker Manor Apartments. She had suffered from asthma and had apparently undergone a severe attack.

Her first husband was A. Thomas Elwood and after his death she was married to Benton F. Cross who died several years ago.

Mrs. Cross was born July 11, 1902, near Jellico, Tenn. She was a member of the Walnut Street Baptist Church, of Harmony chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, of War Mothers, and Rebekah Lodge, all of Louisville and of the Order of Amaranth at Ft. Knox, Ky.

Surviving are three other daughters, all of Louisville, Mrs. Marvin J. Mattingly, Mrs. Fred Taber and Mrs. Kenneth Dillard; two sons, Frank Cross of Ft. Campbell, Ky. and Eddie Cross of St. Louis, Mo.; 27 grandchildren and one great grandchildren.

Time of services has not been decided. Ratterman funeral home, 3800 Bardstown Rd. is in charge and there will be Eastern Star services also.

Mrs. Hazel Cross - services were conducted Thursday in Louisville, Ky., for Mrs. Hazel G. Cross, mother of Mrs. Hunter Pinney of Martinsville, at the Ratterman funeral home by the Rev. Herschel Creasman, Walnut Street Baptist Church, Louisville. Mrs. Cross died June 13. Burial took place Friday afternoon in Jellico, Tenn. Graveside services were conducted by the Rev. George Buchanan, Jellico United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Cross is survived by six children, several grandchildren, and one great grandchild. A son, Howard Wellington Elwood, died during World War II.

Others surviving are sisters, Mrs. Donald W. (Virginia) Roe of Vanceburg, Ky. and Mrs. Garret (Harriet) Garrison of Pineville, Ky.
